I run a Yamaha 6hp in freshwater from a trailer, not sitting in the water for long periods of time. Is the anode attached to the cavitation plate necessary? I would like to remove the anode to install some fins. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

i got a fin that used the anode bolt to hold the fin in place.no need to remove it.also no drilling into the cavitation plate.mines a 15 yamaha.i think the brand name is cobra, but not positive.check the net.

Fresh water or not its not something I'd do [-X Like bcbouy stated if ya can have both ,so much the better.

I have to see if I can just loosen the anode screw and slip the fin under the anode. The anode I assume is because in salt water it ends up being sacrificial but I don't think it is an issue in freshwater. The other option is to reduce the size which is a bit big.
