Lower unit gear oil brands.....

Got a 88 yamaha 25hp motor. Got Wally World brand gear oil for it and changed it. Found a tube of yamaha gear oil in the storage from the previous owner after I already changed it. Should I drain the Wally World oil out and put the yamaha back in it or does it really matter?

I'd see if the Yamaha oil is synthetic or not. I just changed the oil in my '69 Johnson and used the MallWart oil, it's different colored than what came out so I don't know if that's good or bad. You might contact the local boat dealer and ask them what they think, too.

After some digging it seems the Supertech marine gear oil at walmart is actually pennsoil gear oil. I does seem slightly thinner than the yamalube. Hope this does not make a difference.
