Those numbers don't compute, but here is a link that can help you decipher the code.

year guide chart for motors from 1980 to present
I-1
N-2
T-3
R-4
O-5
D-6
U-7
C-8
E-9
S-0

E2RCSM
E for make(evinrude)
2 for hp (2)
R for rope start
C for 8 (as in year) S for 0 (as in year) 80 or 1980
M is the production run for the motor.... if that's the right model number he posted then this is 100% correct...

Did not see your response when I was posting. Our post are a couple of minutes apart. I was stating that the original poster's statement about the motor being a 1999 did not compute. So, I supplied a link to help him evaluate the year.

they are great lil motors..if it looks as good as you say im sure whoever owned it took care of it, you should have a great lil motor.

I would change the pump and impeller and change the gear oil and run some sea foam through it at the very least before you fire it up and start using it so you don't have to worry....cheap to do and easy with basic knowledge....
