Hi folks , need some input. I have a 1996 Spectrum bass boat, with a 1995 Mercury Force 70 hp. Been out on the lake a few times this summer and the best speed I could get out of it was about 15-19 mph(GPS). Now I know a 70hp is no drag racer, but I should be looking at 30 -40 mph. It seems to be something with the throttle lever and the butterfly in the carb ( doesn't seem to open all the way). where should I adjust it to open more. Thanks

Need to know the size of the boat,how its loaded & what RPM's are you running along with what pitch prop.

Without knowing the prop pitch it's hard to estimate what the top speed should be, but those numbers sound like a spun prop hub to me

Could be a spun hub. Could also be the throttle stop on the carbs is adjusted in and not allowing WOT.
