I have an 82 Johnson 15 manual start tiller, J15RCNC. I have been resurrecting this old beast from the dead. It was frozen when it was given to me, thrown in with the deal when I bought my boat. It's now running great ... Unless I am WOT too long: it overheated on me yesterday and shut down.

Thankfully, after a cool down, it restarted and ran well. After a ton of research, I have decided to pull the power head so that I can inspect/replace the water tube grommets. I also need to replace the gaskets on the exhaust cover - one bolt was broken in the block and I will have to drill it out to fix (this bolt was grounding the power pack and was just kinda stuck in place with some sealant!) and, while I am at it, will replace the thermostat and head gasket and clean out the war jacket as needed.

Is there anything else I need to or should do while the power head is out?

Any words of wisdom?
