Hello All.

I have a 95 Honda BF25A Ser# BAJS-1001827. It has electric start but no charge capabilities. I was searching for a lower unit mounting bolt when I came across this. https://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard%20Engine/0/BF25A%20LHA%20/CHARGE%20RECEPTACLE%20KIT%20%281%29/parts.html
I can't seem to find my exact motor in the listings. Is this something I can retro fit so I can have charge capabilities?
Thanks

Almost all later model engines equipped with an electric starter from the factory have the capability to charge the battery. Unless yours was added at a later date you probably have this capability.
Do yourself a favor. Check the battery voltage before you start your engine. Start your engine and check it again. Check it again after running on plane for a while and see if the voltage has not risen above your original two numbers. If it has then you have the correct stator under the flywheel. Bear in mind that the capabilities of this charging system are/will be minimal. You will not be able to keep a trolling motor batt. charged for example.

Hi Pappy, thanks for the reply. My OB did not come with charging, as per the Honda manual & real life test (as you discribed)
I've gone through the wiring schamitic & I see that they have the charging items broken out in it's own little box.
Also a engine that has charging capabilities will have a plug receptcal near the shifter. My has the space for the receptical but it is blocked off with a plastic plug.
According to the guy at US Boats part# 06320-zv7-020 (6amp) is the kit I need. I ordered it, hope he knew what he's talking about.

So i received the parts last Friday & installed yesterday. It turns out my motor already had everything but the receptacle plug ( all 6amp components ) sense I ordered the 10amp version I went ahead & changed out the regulator / rectifier, coil assembly, and installed the receptacle / plug. I have not had a chance to test yet though.:-(

The parts kit came with pretty good instructions, cept it left out what to do with the "left over " wires from the regulator, luckily I could figure them out from the schematic in the manual.

Yep, I guess it is because I have electric start? ( If so why would they leave off the plug receptical?) In the schmatics they only showed the charging parts on a pull start engine. Does that sound screwy to anybody besides me? Charging on a pull start but not on a electric start?
I have not tested yet, am leaving for 3 days on Shasta & am bringing the Fluke, will post results Monday.

So I did some testing, started engine & checked voltage, it was 12.5V with out the charge cable connected. Connected the cable & voltage went to 13.5 volts.
A question, now that I know it works can I hard wire this into my system? I assume I could attatch the hot lead at the starter?

Not at the starter since that is only hot on a momentary basis.
Assuming that "your system" is whatever you want to power onboard your boat.
If that is the case then the system can be wired normally as per the schematic.
Usually the charging system will be attached to the starter relay, on the battery positive side, not the starter side.
You would then run your boat system off of the battery using properly fused circuits.

That's what I meant by starter.
