mariner troubles

I have an 87 mariner 40 hp, mid throttle it hesitates, and sounds like its running on one cylinder.....idle, and full throttle are fine..any ideas?

My first thought would be to clean the carb. It could have some blockage that would cause these symptoms.

Kinda what im thinkin, i was just hopin it wasnt a crank case leak, i know pressure has to be maintained in the bottom of a two stroke motor...ill be takin the carbs apart this weekend...
