So I messed up my 6 hp Evinrude I had on my 10' Landau Cherokee. Its leaking foot oil. I have the opportunity to buy a 2012 Nissan 9.8 hp long shaft with 12 hours on it for $1000. Two questions, one is he asking to much for a 9.8 hp motor? And two, would it be ok to have a long shaft motor on my 10' Landau? Its rated for a 15 hp motor. Any advice is appreciated. I'm supposed to look at the motor after work.

I have a long shaft on mine and it works just fine I used a mini jack plate. Here is the link https://www.thmarine.com/products/Outboard-Jack-Plates/Static-Height-Plates/Mini-Jacker-

Pappy » 04 Feb 2014, 19:06[/url]"]At the risk of sounding blunt....this has been covered a number of times. Do a google search on the site or just a normal search. There are several threads on this.
Can it be done...yes....is it the way to go? No....far from it.

Appreciate the advice, I went ahead and picked up the motor. For what I paid I couldn't say no. I talked him down to $700, I figure I can try to trade for a short shaft or put it on craigslist.

I use a longshaft 20hp chrysler on my 14ft shallow v with a homemade transom riser and it works great. boat plains out nice and has zero drag. As long as you make the cavitation plate level with the bottom of your boat there will not be any problems. sounds like a sweet deal you got on your motor.

Got any pics of your riser?

i have a long shaft on my 1448, had to get a riser to make it right. bought it off here. works much better with the riser.

sorry no pics of my riser as my boat is buried under 2 feet of snow lol. I google searched homemade transom riser and found some real sweet ideas and went from there. I made mine removable because I switch my motors quite a bit for certain lakes I fish.

heres one sort of like the one I built. https://forums.iboats.com/non-repair-outboard-discussions/my-homemade-transom-extender-229049.html

??

I think it indicates agreement with your previous post (jack it up and "level" the plate).... same as the pic below (although the plate is anti-ventilation, cavitation is a different issue)...
