I recently purchased a used outboard motor that has sat for 8 years. It has good compression, and I drained the lower unit oil which was clean. I want to hook the motor up to a set of muffs so I can run it, but I cant get my hands on any lower unit oil today. My question is, can I run it in neutral w/o the lower unit oil without causing any damage. I just want to run it for a couple minutes.

there is no walmart where you live they sell it. if it where me no i would wait

Even in neutral the driveshaft is still spinning. It could ruin the shaft or bearing quickly with no oil. I would wait until I could get the oil. If you just really have to start it, put some kind of oil in it, at the least. Just don't run it dry.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I didn't have a chance to run it yesterday anyways, and I will make sure to put oil in it before doing so.
