Looking for a little motor for my semi v 12 footer. (Deep v ) I'm thinking it would carry a 20 hp two stroke just fine. Any idea of the rated hp?
It doesn't have a tag that says.

20 hp is not a light motor by any stretch. By the time you add the motor, gas, battery, TM and gear, you are talking some serious weight. I have a 14ft with a 20 Mercury and I had to move the battery and gas up front so I could see over the front while under way. I would think that a 20 might be a bit much for your boat. Just because you cna do it, does not mean you should. Just my two cents.

If it's an older boat, I doubt if it was rated for anything over a 10 horse. Some of the newer models might be built to handle something slightly larger but I'd limit it to 10 if it were mine.

15 inch transom, out of the question.
20 inch transom, questionable at best

I had a 1976 14ft lund vee 62 inch beam 20 inch transom and it was rated for 20 hp. Poster who said 10hp max, I agree.

... weight wise.

In other words you could pro'lly get away with putting a 15 on there if it is rated for a 10.

12ft. boats can be rated from 7.5-25hp. It depends on the other dimensions: beam, transom width, depth. Generally a 9.9 does pretty well for most purposes. I regularly use 15s or older 18s on 12ft boats if the transom is strong enough.
When going for 'white-knuckles', a late model 30, with a Panther power trim system, will run over 40mph. You better be holding on tight and paying attention.
Many 12ft boats need the engine removed for trailering. The transom isn't strong enough for carrying the engine under road-shock conditions.

The rig in my signature was built in '79 and is rated for 20 hp. I found the 9.9 to be the perfect blend of easy planing, slow trolling and good efficiency.

What make and model of boat? Without knowing this it could be a crapshoot. Some semi-v's were rated for only 7.5 hp.

If you cannot find the make and model of your boat than I would also want to know the load capacity of the boat. Here is a link that will help you figure out horse power rating and weight capacity of the boat.
