72 evinrude 9.5 advice needed

Keeping this short/simple....... When I pull the rope start the
"bendix " just spins, I disassembled, cleaned, lite grease lubes shaft and
It still just spins it does not "pop up" to engage flywheel, before I spend $30in a new one
Could there be something else wrong ?
 
Maybe the grease is too heavy and is not letting it move freely. Is the gear broken around the angled slots where the drive pin rides? Is the drive pin missing? It's a pretty simple set up. There isn't a whole lot that can go wrong. Hope this helps.
 
I to wonder if grease to thick?? Drive pin is in place , the "bendix is plastic
The slotted groove looks like a little ware to it, seen one on eBay
Looked to be metal and also had a spring the looked like it went inside the bendix
Am I missing that because I don't have one in Mine
 
Maybe go to marineengine.com, look up the parts diagram for your motor and make sure you have all of the pieces that are supposed to be there. Maybe post a picture. Someone may be able to see a problem.
 
Have you tried pulling it with a snapping motion. If you pull slow it will not come up
