I have a 1988 Evinrude, 2 stroke, 8hp.
As I was pulling the starter grip the rope came right out with it.
I think that it is just old rope from 1988 and has become old and worn but i'm not sure.
I would like to fix this myself but i don't know where to start.
I would like to talk to someone who knows what to do 1 on 1.
please get back to me!
please leave your input.
thanks.

this is all i got:

and try searching youtube.

Each engine has a very specific rope length. Make sure you adhere to this. Too short and you will damage the starter assembly if you over extend the rope while pulling. Too long and you will have slack and the rope will jump the grooves. Proper diameter is necessary. Think yours is 5/32" but not positive

Any Johnson evinrude dealer close to you can sell you the proper diameter rope at the correct length. The length is outlined in their parts manuals.
