well i found a honda for such a good price, i had to ask the guy if it was stolen! lol. decided to try a honda and i have to say it is quite. i have had 99 johnson 15hp, 99 merc 15hp electric, 06 merc 9.8 but of all four this is the smoothest. cant wait to get it on the water!. so now i have a 06, honda, 15hp electric start. the only bad.... omg its heavy. my johnson 35 weighs less i think. my only worry is the maintenance cost later on and if anything breaks. i.e. electrical, ignition, cdi etc.. stuff is way over priced.

i changed the impeller, new fuel fitting, new prop, fuse for the electric start. still need to change the oil in the motor and lower.

The honda is a 4-stroke. That is the major difference.

Honda cars, motorcycles and outboards are all sold under the American Honda Motor Company banner. I'm not sure about the manufacture of each but if the outboards hold up like the cars it'll be a long time before you're going to be needing parts. I've owned several Honda cars and except for the CV joints which tended to go out at about 85K miles, they operated flawlessly. As far as the parts go, again comparing cars, I've owned VW's and a Volvo. A trip to the parts store for either will make you weep. It will be interesting to hear from any Honda outboard owners here to see what their experience has been.
