I have a 1998 Evinrude 50hp motor that I am putting on my boat. I broke the alarm horn, and just bought a new one - which is not making any noise when I first turn the key. One of the things I did not get with the motor was the tachometer (which had the alarm lights). From what I am reading in the repair manual, it almost sounds like the horn won't work without the gauge being plugged in? Can anyone confirm this? I was looking to avoid spending $100 on a gauge and just use the horn to alert me to problems, but if I need the gauge for the horn to work then that plan won't work.
