I don't have any water / cooling problems on my outboard but I heard of people using a garbage can filled with water and a gallon of plain old vinegar to flush an outboard out, hey it works on coffee makers. To remove mineral deposits of course. I don't think the vinegar would damage anything chemical wise but I fear it could loosen up some kind of mineral deposit and plug something up. Anybody do this or know someone who does? CLR might work too.

Turns out it is common procedure, googled it, here is a link to guys doing it.
