Hi all,

So I'm far more familiar with the model number identification of the JohnnyRude's, but I'm working on an 4hp Mercury Gnat that I can't quite nail down the model year.

The serial number is 9321882, which is higher than any of the series of serial numbers assigned to a 4 hp. Looking at the graphics, I guess it's somewhere between an '80 and '82. It appears that '80 was the last year of this style motor, but the serial number series only goes up to 9258280.

From what I can tell, it should be one of these motors:

Do I have something unusual here?? Can anyone help me straighten this out??

I wasn't aware that MFG location affected serial numbers...

Again on the JohnnyRudes, many motors are made in Canada and Belgium and sold in the U.S. Was this a European motor that was brought by an owner to the U.S.???

I guess it's not a huge deal, as far as I can tell, there really isn't any difference between the Gnat's that would cause any issues, but it would just be nice to know.

Thanks!

If you use this parts by serial lookup service, it comes up as a 1980 model.
