Hey guys is there like a how to for dummies article somewhere? On getting a motor set up correctly on a boat.
Like the basics. How high / low and such. A starting point.

Short shaft motor on a 15, 16" transom. Long shaft motor on a 20" transom. Have the anti- cavitation / anti-ventilation plate even with the bottom of the hull.

It's called a Manual. 8)

Yes, owners manuals provide good basics.
Service manuals go even further usually in the safety section.
Mercury has a rigging manual I found really helpful. They also have a high performance boat operation manual that covers all the bases.
All this information applies to all boats, no matter the brand of manual.

Used motors don't always come with a manual.

If this is your first boat and motor, it would be in your best interest to
buy some manuals off of E-Bay or somewhere else........
You can learn a lot about your motor and how to maintain it with a manual in your hands.
Same way as if you are working on your car/truck engine.
