This may be old news to most, but, a first for me . . . .

While replacing the water pump on a 1980s Chrysler Force 50hp,
I noticed the shaft was pretty worn where the water pump seals have rubbed it raw.
So I am looking for another shaft on ebay, $90 IF you can find one that fits !!!!

upon pondering and looking, I noticed the top of the shaft is pristine new looking.
hmmmmmm - flip the shaft over, drill another hole for the impeller, COOL !!!
I was going to take it to the metal shop and have it done, considering this is tempered stainless
steel . . . . stopped by Lowe's and picked up a couple of 1/8" Dewalt metal bits that
specifically states "for hardened stainless".
popped it in the drill press, poof, new hole, like-new shaft, new water pump, new impeller !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good for another 20 years.

Think OUTSIDE the box !!!!

Of course this will not work if you have the "half moon" key for the impeller. If that were the
case, then you would have no choice but to take it the machine shop to have a key slot made.
but still cheaper than buying a new shaft. IMO.
