Just got a 1986 50 hp mariner motor. The owner I got it from ran 40:1 mix. Is this right? Every thing I read is saying 50:1 mix. Any help would be great[emoji2]

I have a mid 80s 35 and 50hp Chrysler Force and the shop manual
says to use 50:1 mix.
I was told that older motors that have seen a lot of usage, will
drop down to 45:1 or 40:1. I think that is just a personal choice.
Also, my '79 Johnson 25 specifies the 50:1

40:1 is more oil than 50:1. A little more oil is better than too little oil.

Thanks for the replies. I agree. A little more oil is better than not enough. Just wanted to carry the same mix for both of my motors. My mercury 4 hp takes 50:1..... Thanks!
