It can be very difficult to tilt your motor out of a barrel full of water after running your motor in it. I read this tip several years ago somewhere. Just drill a 3/8" hole in the barrel and when you are done just let it drain by itself. It's much easier than struggling with a barrel full of water.

Another trick if you don't want to put a hole in your barrel is to use a length of tubing or 2" vacuum hose. Dunk the whole thing underwater, plug one end of the hose (your hand works fine), and make sure the open end stays under water. Flop the plugged end of the tube out of the water and remove the plug (or your your hand :) ). As long as the open ends of the hose stay lower then the water line, it will drain out.

2" will go MUCH faster than 3/8" :)

I was in the Bass Pro Shop service area the other day and saw they had a 1" hole in the bottom of their can with a boat drain plug in it. Handy.
