Hey folks,

I saw this ad and being a lifelong duck hunter, set out to find one

Once I found out that a Lightwin was the same thing (except with a decal set and paint job) I bought what I believe is a 1965 Evinrude Lightwin from a friend who just rebuilt it (Replaced the coils, new plugs, carb kit, new condensors, points, etc). It's got character ;)

And it seems to suit my 12' duck boat well

I took it out for a spin (empty boat, just me @260lbs in the stern) and at wide open I was getting 5 km/h (3 mph). I'm just wondering if that's about what I can expect? I can't complain too much as it's faster (and less effort) than paddling, but I was expecting a bit more out of it. I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything that could add some speed?

No information on speed, just wanted to say what a beautiful lake you have to fish/hunt. Reminds me of growing up in northern Michigan.

I would have thought about 6-7 mph. Did you check the compression?

I haven't yet, I don't have the tool to.

Really depends on what you're pushing, in my experience.

Love the little engines that could, though.

Have fun.

It seems like a nice little motor :) Seemed to run nice, just not as fast as I was hoping, but then again, I might have had to high of hopes for the speed?

Any chance it could just be as simple as a weight distribution problem?

Just snapped a couple pictures. Does the motor look like it's sitting right on the boat?

Or does it need to be sitting down more?

Also, due to me not knowing that they made a single motor mount I have the bolt running right where the mount needs to go.

I don't think it's far enough off center that it would make a huge difference, but thought I'd put it up here as well

i have a 64 lightwin on my duck boat! never checked the speed loaded with guns and decoys, but with my girlfriend and myself (around 320lbs) a full cooler with 18 beers, 5 gal minnow bucket, long shaft 55lb troller and group 29 battery (among poles and tackle) I push 7mph.

Make sure it's running on 2 cylinders.
Those little 3hp's run so smooth that it's hard to tell when they drop a cylinder.
