Well worth the effort and very nice running engine as well.
Make sure you touch all the bases before running (Water pump, gearcase seals if needed, ignition and carb)
A 20:1 mixture is recommended for that engine. Do not run it on less than 24:1 as it is a plain bearing engine.

Was not expecting this, of course I have never disassembled a outboard before. When I removed what I thought were the heads I was expecting to see the top of pistons. Just a dome with a hole for spark plugs. I am guessing that on e I split the crankcase the pistons come out and I just have the cylinder walls with no access to the top of the cylinder?

Where are you looking for pistons?
And yes, they are beyond a concern. Less than the recommended oil ratio or...a water pump failure occurred and the owner kept running.
You may find what you are looking for at www.aomci.org.
There is a free "webvertize" section there to find your pistons as well as a free "ask a member" section. They are the Antique Outboard crowd.
Am betting you will find what you need there.
