Vapor separator or other "filters' on 2008 3-cyl Merc 25hp?

This is a newer 4-stroke owned by a friend. Says it starts and runs fine at idle to low speeds, but stumble and stalls trying to get on plane. I have only owned one 4-stroke (big azz Suzuki) and it was flawless ... but I know that Yam 4-strokes are extremely sensitive :shock: to VST or other fuel delivery filters clogging.

Anyone know offhand what filters are in-line on these smaller Merc 4-stroke puppies so that I can guide him? He did confirm that the primer bulb doesn't go flat and ran it with the fuel cap (built-in tank) removed and got same results.

Yeah, I told him to do that on www.boats.net, as I didn't have the model serial number that's needed for Merc OBs.

... was just hoping that someone else had recent experience and could advise ...
