Hello,
Its been awhile since I have been on here. I re done a 1978 duracraft 16 ft and end up selling it back in January. Since then I have purchased a 03 triton with an 04 MERCURY 150 XR6. I am at the ramp yesterday and drop my boat in the water. I pump the bulb and have trouble filling. Turn at a 90 degree angle and she fills right up. I crank her up and she runs shortly then cuts right back off. I do this two more times and the same thing happens. I had just put 10 gallons of gas so I know I had enough gas. I also had charged my cranking battery for several hours and all my other electronics were working fine. Any ideas???? I am planning on taking it to the shop tomorrow morning. Hope its nothing serious. Anyone had similar problems??

Thanks,
Bruce

Is the vent open on the tank?

Your guy will figure it out.

Also, I had the interior of a fuel line and the ball collapse after they were exposed to ethanol in the gasoline for the first time.

I would check the bulb after it runs and dies. If the bulb is weak again then you have a fuel issue going into the carbs.

Doesn't every outboard need a primer bulb to initially move the gas from the tank to the motor? Or, is the "primer bulb" not the one in the gas line???

I really don't know. I have never owned an EFI engine but I thought the bigger bass boats with onboard fuel tanks used an internal fuel pump to the tank like on a car/truck.

Thanks for all the responses. My motor is not one of the EFI versions, Mine actually has a carburetor. The good news is I ended up replacing the bulb and fuel line and she fired back up. Bad news is I took her to the river yesterday and she ended up catching on fire. Both voltage regulators caught on fire and burned up a bunch of my wiring. I am lucky I put it out before it could do any further damage. Previous owner says he will split the cost to fix (I just bought it last Thursday) it. Turned out to be a really great/honest guy.

After reading up on it, it is actually common. New wiring and new regulators should fix her back up. She is in the shop now and trying to see what it will cost me.

Stay tuned...

Holy cow, I would have had a heart attack. Glad you are safe.
