Picked up an 85 johnson 15 horse. in the process of cleaning out the marine grease that someone put on EVERYTHING under the cowl. the motor has been sitting a while and that grease is like tar now. anyhow, what lubricants do you guys suggest using for things like the tiller control gears and moving throttle and ignition parts? and most importantly the delrin ring? The manual suggests using johnson/evinrude outboard lubricant. Internet searches only bring up lower unit lube products, I doubt that is what they are referring to. any help would be greatly appreciated.

You want their "Triple Guard" grease, a blue-colored waterproof synthetic grease, used be by OMC but now Bombardier. All OB makers sell it, and it all probably comes out of the same factory, but the US branded stuff is less costly.

The Delrin ring, on the mag plate, only requires a couple drops of 50:1 lubricant on it. You will have to pull the flywheel to do this.

are you referring to 2 stroke oil?
