I tend to swap boats and motors around allot and hate drilling holes in transoms. I never drill them and bolt the motor down if it has clamps and is a 25hp or less 2 stroke. I was considering purchasing a power tilt 25hp for a boat that currently has no holes in it. Not knowing how long I may keep the motor or boat I hate to drill 4 big holes I the transom to properly mount the motor. What do you think about just using the top two holes and 2 bolts to mount a 25hp motor? Seems like it should be enough. The boat is a 16ft aluminum v bottom which could get by with a 15hp motor.

If it only needs 2 bolts why would the engineers go to all the extra expense and weight of designing for a 4 bolt mounting system?
