I got a 1954 elgin 7.5 yesterday.I bought this motor yesterday and starting tearing it down today the motor is froze up and I decided to put some marvel mystery oil in her to lube it up but it began to come out of the carb and lower unit so I pulled the plate off and ended up breaking 5 screws off in her

Is she fixable? And how would you go about getting the bolts out they stick out a little so maybe I can get some vise grips on them. I put some more oil on the pistons before I left school so maybe Monday she will be free.

With those bolts do not try to put vise grips until you heat up the bolts with a mapp gas torch and melt a candle around them. This would be my best suggestion if that fails then your stuck drilling out and using a helicoil

I would check the rest of the lower end before I put too much time
into the bolts...... if the pistons are stuck, you may run into more
problems as you get deeper into it.

a popular penetrant is a 50/50 mix of automatic trans fluid and acetone and let it sit overnight.
then - I would drill the appropriate size hole for the "Easy Out" extractors.
like said above - heat with the torch and tap tap tap the Easy Out as you work it.
learn as you go !!!
but, if the rest of the lower end is shot - there is no need to go any further. (IMO).
parts motor on e-bay.

there are several Elgin Aficionados on the Antique Outboard forum: https://www.aomci.org
you may want to cruise over there and take a look.

.

Go to https://www.aomci.org then to the ask a member section. You should be able to find out any information you may need on the Elgins.
Also take a look around here for parts. https://elginoutboard.com/
I have purchased from them before when restoring one. Good people to deal with.
