I have an opportunity to buy an outboard motor that was used as a kicker motor.

I'm worried about the possibility of corrosion within the motor.

Are my concerns valid? Should i play it safe and pass on it? Any tell tale signs of corrosion within the motor itself?

Thanks!

You can see the corrosion on the outside but not the corrosion inside:

Yep!

Saw that video and was wondering if it's the same for outboards.

Seems like everything is pointing towards passing on it. Not worth the headache in the future.

Ask the seller to open up where the water pump/impeller is while your there, it's not a hard thing then look for any tell tale signs. If it looks good your all set.

This.

Don't pass it up yet. If there's only very minor surface corrosion inside the lower where the water pump housing is located, get him to drop the price a but and off you go.
