I have a 1985 mercury 50hp. The motor was running then cut out like the key shut off. Tried restarting but I have no spark. I did some investigating and found that I have pulsing current coming from the trigger into switch box(wires with blue tape) but I have no current coming out of switch box. Does this mean my switch box is bad or is there anything else that could be causing this?

If there is a kill switch hooked up in the system you will want to check that. Also check the key switch between ground and the kill wire. If there is a connection there when the key switch is in the on position you may have a bad switch.
If the engine can be started with a rope I would disconnect the boat to engine wiring harness and check spark while disconnected. If you have spark it will be in the harness somewhere. (Read...my first two places I mentioned).
If these checks do not bring you success then it will be a switch box.
