Hi guys. Need help with my Merc 9.8 (1982ish). Twisting the throttle does not increase motor speed. Manually moving the throttle lever works great. What controls the levers movement with the twist grip? I don't see how the two tie together. Can't find the answer in parts diagrams. Anyone know how they work together?

GOOGLE> "9.8 Mercury tiller diagram", see if that helps.
I have a 15hp Merc where cables open and close the carb when the handle is twisted, it looks like the 9.8 works the same. I would check those cables (there are 2, one opens and the other closes ) to see if one broke or something else broke that they are connected to.
A friction washer broke on my tiller handle and I had to replace it, which meant I had to remove the handle and those cables, taking it apart was easy, getting those cables back the right way on the carb became a project even with the notes and drawings I had made! #-o
