I'm going on year 4 on my current fuel filter, but I've maybe only ran 50 gallons of fuel through it.

How often do you change yours out? Do you have it inside our outside the motor cover? I'm thinking about moving mine inside, just for appearance purposes.

Every year on 30hp & above, every other year on smaller OBs.

All mine are mounted to the transom ... no room under the OB cowlings I have!

I just installed a new fram fuel filter in mine. Fits just fine

Oh yes, those little in-line ones would surely fit ... but I can't tell you how many boats I've towed in that use them.

For ethanol or E10 fuels, I only use the big external 'oil filter' sized fuel/water separators. But my use in on tidal rivers leading to the ocean, so it's cheap insurance for me 8) !

When I was a kid I had a 15 Johnson, must have put hundreds of hours on that thing every year, I bought her used and never changed the fuel filter, also never had a problem.

My current rig Yamaha F115 gets changed once per year.
