Hi All,

Got this motor off Craig's List. Runs, changed coils, need to clean/rebuild carbs and check crank/gear and impeller before I take it on the lake. Been converted to regular fuel tank already when I bought it.

Question; Will the FDE-11 starter bracket and starter motor fit this FD-11 manual pull motor? Any caveats I should know about if it is not a straight forward conversion? Electrical should be fine, but advise welcomed.

Essentially thinking of replacing the manual bracket with this bracket and starter... https://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=OMC0175019

Is the L/P 3.00 going to be in the way, necessary.

Additional question: What is the L/P 3.00 part, (number 77 and 78 in the diagram here https://www.marineengine.com/parts/...manufacturer=Johnson&section=Carburetor+Group? Its the 'clam shell' two half tank... Air or fuel....? Is it part of the old fuel system? Curious as I did not see it on a a running FDE-11 you tube video.

Please forgive my ignorance on this specific motor. I'm fairly mechanical, mostly auto's and motorcycles.

I replaced the keyway on the shaft with an OEM key. Replaced the coil spring for the pull start, but spring keeps popping/unwinding after a several (20 or more) pulls. Would really like to have electric start and the pull only for emergency backup.

I appreciate any help.

it's the air box... you need it:

The conversion to electric start is very straight forward. Just troll ebay till the part numbers come up... none there today..... but tomorrow....

If the recoil spring is popping out usually it is one of two things. You are preloading it too much or the ears are worn where it locks in. You have to figure out what is happening.

You want just enough tension on that spring to recoil your starter rope, not slam it back against the cowl.

Much appreciated, good news. I will be vigilant on The Ebay.

I thought it was snapping back a bit hard. I will try to wind it with less tension this time. Appreciate the help.
