Greetings gentlemen,
My tilt assist cylinder failed on my 96 Johnson 40/28 jet and I've acquired a 94 Evinrude 48 SPL with a bad lower unit that has a power trim on it.
I plan to swap the trim unit soon. The 94 powerhead has better compression and seems to be fairly low hours compared to my 96.
Ive gathered that there are 4 models of this powerhead:
1989-1992
1993-1994
1995-1998
1999-2005
Does anyone know what changed from 94 to 95? Cranks are the same part no.
Thanks

This topic has been covered here before and you can probably look it up.
Your particular answer is a fairly simple one though. The 48/50 hp engines are identical.
OMC made a no-frills 28, 48, and 88 SPL series of engines to get engines in the hands of consumers at a lower price. Often these engines had no power trim or VRO system on them and usually had lower output charging systems. Horsepower-wise they were the identical powerhead to the versions that were the standard 30, 50, and 90hp engines.
Your "swap" has already been done numerous times with good success. Just pull the complete assy. and bolt it on.

Thanks Pappy,
I did search but didnt find that particular swap.
It looks like an easy one, I just wanted to double check.
