1977 15hp johnson. how to remove upper driveshaft.

My old long shaft lower unit the shaft came right out of the lower unit when I pulled, The other lower unit it stays in. I am trying to put the short shaft in my other lower unit.

Any advice. been looking on yuotube buy no joy

Pull the waterpump assembly.
Slide the driveshaft out. There is no nut at the bottom of the driveshaft. Should slide out.
When you drained the gearlube was there water in it? That may be an issue if that was the case.

No, There was no water in the lower unit. Even with the pump removed the shaft still doesn't slide out. On the long shaft unit it did.

No reason for it to be locked in place. One way or another it should come out.
