Looking for some help before I tear into my next project.

I own a 1984 Johnson 9.9 Long shaft and 1976 Johnson 9.9 Short shaft. I use the LS most often, but it it time for a rebuild. Will the long shaft parts from my 84' fit the 76'?

I want to keep fishing during this rebuild!

I believe they will interchange but to get to the water tube you would have to pull the powerhead unless you are lucky and it has a extension kit on the longshaft. You can go to one of the parts sites and check part numbers to be sure.
 
I should fit. I just did this conversion. Put a 9.9 short shaft on a 15 long shaft motor. You'll need to pull the powerhead as posted above, but its pretty simple.
