I treated myself to a Minn Kota Riptide 45 V/T trolling motor for my Birthday.
This is my first trolling motor and while the motor itself is fine I find its now pretty cramped with the outboard.

What have others done? I have 14' Sylvan with a low transom and with the trolling motor on the flat part its very close to the outboard to the point that with the trolling motor up I can't turn the outboard al the way to the right.

I was thinking of making a block to match the contour of the transom to give myself a level mounting point another 5-6 inches to the right.

Any thoughts?

Any reason why you wouldn't want to put a block up front and flip the control head around to give yourself a bow-mount control? With the outboard in the water it stabilizes the drift of the boat fairly well to keeping in a straight line when on the electric.
