sometimes when i have boat going forward and then try to shift it back to neutral it gets a little hard. almost have to force it back. i have loosened up the bolts as much as i can to get give it some play and its always goes smooth after this in the yard but when i have it in the water its hard. i've run out of ideas, any got any suggestions? thanks

How old are your cables? Got them in a tight bend? My brand new rig was super hard to shift, I had to cut a few zip ties to allow the cable some freedom. You can also try a little lube on the roller, but it's not going to last very long.

cables are the original that came on the boat, its an 01. they move freely though when in the yard checking it out and making an adjustment. the rollers is almost brand new because lost the roller and bolt one night running up river. took a bit to figure out why boat wouldnt stop going forward. i'll keep messing with it and see what i can come up with.

How's your idle speed? If it's too high it could be pumping too much water through making it tough to move the gate. Is there any buildup inside the reverse gate? Corrosion or marine buildup will make the water grab it more so it's difficult to move.
