I'm not sure where I first saw this idea, but since I do a lot of my fishing by myself I thought I would make myself a camera mount for the boat. I had a couple of extra pedestals and the stainless hardware laying around, all I needed to purchase was the PVC pipe and the end cap.

I drilled a hole in the end cap and mounted the stainless hardware with a nylon lock nut.

Made sure the threads would fit the camera.

Put the pedestal in the base.

Then I cut the 1 1/2 PVC pipe to the proper height and glued the end cap on. The open end of the PVC pipe fits over the pedestal. Now I can use the timer on the camera to take pictures of the catch.

I can move this to the back seat base if I need wider angle

Then I took a test shot.

Neat idea.

One small word of caution. You have to be very careful about the length of the stud you are threading into the bottom of the camera. It is very easy to punch out the bottom of the tripod socket by screwing it in too far, which will make you cry. I measure the depth, subtract a tiny bit for safety margin, and put either a pair of nuts to lock each other at the correct depth, or you could use a self locking nylock nut.

Don't know much about fishing, know a lot about cameras. :D

Cheers

=D> Oh man...that is cool! I gotta make me one. Please go to iboats and tell them about it to. What other ideas do you have?

Just a quick update to this topic. I went out on Tuesday and spent most of the day fishing Lilly Pads with a weed demon, I put a few fish in the boat and missed a lot more. The picture is the biggest of the day 4Lbs 4oz, the picture was taken using the camera mount.

Nice idea. I usually just sit my camera on my butt seat. Your idea is much more secure. You could even use it to video yourself fishing.

I like the design! Simple but functional!

Btw that is a ton of tackle you got there! I thought I had alot but wow

I keep a lot of tackle in the boat, I like to switch things up when the fishing slows.
