Knocking sound is rope being pulled off the deck, first time I have ever had it happen. I think it was a bad omen as you will see later.

This one is a long one, from the earlier stop to K bridge. Around 11-12 miles.

The final video for this setup, 3 minutes in I didn't see the huge rock in the shadows. About 30 feet away I tried to spin a 180, rode the wake halfway over before it set down. Totaled boat and engine.

Cool videos. What kind of damage did that rock do? It must have been a lot bigger underwater.

The rock is solid and about the size of a Smart car.

When I seen it ripple in the water i knew there was no way to avoid hitting it. I knew a hit in the side would probably throw us into the rock ledge or throw us out of the boat. I threw the wheel hard left and hit the throttle which will spin a 180. That raised the right side out of the water and dropped the left side, so it hit under the hull instead of the side and slide across the rock. The shoe hit the rock on the side and broke a good size chunk out if it, cocked the motor sideways, busted the trim unit, broke the engine mount bracket, the swivel tube, and several other parts. The dents on the hull are deemed not repairable due to their location, still doesn't leak.

The rope was 15 ft so I wasn't worried there. I was concerned with it catching a log or brush more than anything.

The rivers I run are all damned up & deep...I'm on the edge of my seat with my stomach in my throat at the thought of going that fast over such shallow water let alone when you finally hit something.

What was that line from Jurassic Park...something to the effect of '...got so caught up in whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should'

Does insurance cover this type of thing? (I hope)

All covered by insurance, first boat claim I have ever had.

I have been running that area since 2003. Out of that whole stretch of river that is the only area that concerns me when running. I should have floated through that area, when I realized that was it I was already committed. That is an excellent Smallmouth area, that day was just playing and swimming.

I guess then our fastwater sections in CT are just too full of boulders to ever consider doing that.

Sorry to hear about your boat!

I have to live with that possibility every time I'm on the river here. Unfortunately no such thing as mud or cobble bottom around here.
