I have what I believe is an 88 Merc Mariner 9.9 with a tiller that I want to convert to controls. it's manual start, no trim. so I've been told this is the easiest config since no harness is required. What all would I need? Will any modern mercury control work?

Use your S/N and pull up the parts schematics on boats.net and make a list of the motor-side items you'll need. Many of them can be found on Ebay if you know the OEM part number. At that point any mercury throttle/shift controls will work for you. You'll have the pull start still, but that's no biggie speaking from experience I converted my pull start tiller to remote and have no issue turning around to start it (bigger motor same vintage).

thanks for the response, but I'm on to a new plan now. this thread can probably be deleted.
