Hood Seal for 1979 Evinrude 6 HP

Anyone know where I can get a new seal for the hood on a 1979 Evinrude 6 HP motor? Mine is cracking.

you have to have a good idea of the profile of your gasket.
Many are similar but some have just enough difference to make it not work.

Sorry if this is a thread jack, but I am thinking of buying one of these OMC 6hp's. Are parts a problem? I know they made a zillion of them.

I've had work done on my motor and my mechanic always seems to have any part he needs. Impellers, water pump, pull rope, etc. But the gasket for a hood I haven't found yet. I've searched eBay already but no luck.

LOL - Bird, I was gonna add to my first post "depends on how bad you need it".
yes, they are not cheap - but - they are the only game in town.
I needed 3 for my pre-1960 Johnsons (I have 5 of them) and Pappy needed a couple also.
so we ended up buying 5 or so for a boat load of coins.
When refurbishing an old vintage motor, if you gonna have a nice paint job
you can not have a raggedy cowl gasket ....... thus, forking out the $$$$

If you need parts, Marine Engine has most everything you will ever need.
But, once you cross the age line, a lot of parts are "no longer available".

Note: IF you decide to purchase the gasket, make tripple sure you cut it
about an inch longer than you need and force the cowl down over it and let it
sit for a few days to acclimate - then, trim and glue it in place with contact cement.

For the seal on the hood itself, it almost makes more sense to see if you can find an entire hood in great shape on Ebay or somewhere.

No hood gaskets or seals as you call them for that old of a motor from brp. You would have to find it at an older dealer sitting in their parts bin for years.
