OnTheWater - LOL - not that I have forgotten a lot of stuff,
it is the EPA LAWS that have changed so much over the years
that us Old Timers have a hard time finding something compatible
with our old school talents and skills. Such as lead based paints LOL.
and now, this stupid thing about "primer and paint - all in one can" is REDICULOUS !!!!
I was fortunate enough to attend a "Painters College" hosted by
Benjamin Moore Coatings many years ago and now - the products
we trained with are no longer available.
Even though I am retired, I still like to piddle with paints and coatings
while doing my domestic builds in the home as well as the vintage motors
and tin boats in my collection.
What worked well 10-15 years ago is not the case today.
HOWEVER (coma) the "technique" is the same today as it was 50 years ago.
we still have the option to spray, roll or brush things we want to paint or varnish.
I have been painting something or other or making signs since around 1960.
I was a woodcarving and painting instructor for my craft for over 20 years.
My fellow colleagues in the artisan trade are struggling with the same problems
generated by our government....... but, it is a necessary step to preserve our environment.

With all this in mind, it can very well be overwhelming to someone that does not
have past experience with painting - especially when trying to decypher primers and paints

like I said - it is only a BOAT !!! not your grandmothers china cabinet !!!!
DON'T OVER THINK IT
Read, Understand and Follow the instructions on any products you may use.
They are there for a reason.

I took mine down to bare aluminum only because I won't have a motor until next season and I figured what the hell.. But I washed it down with tsp and water solution, and after it dried I applied the gluvit, then I just scuffed if up (the gluvit) with some 220 and then washed it down with a 50/50 vinegar water mix. I am going to apply the paint for the interior tomorrow am. My question is does the vinegar water mix have any etching effect on the gluvit? Again I scuffed the gluvit but I thought if it did and it would help make the paint stick it would be good
I am going to be using self etching on my interior and I researched and it does not hurt the gluvit. I

Some rust near the transom. Wire brush and vinegar wash? Do I need to prime this with etching primer?
