Aloha everyone! New here to the forum, and boat ownership/rebuilding. Looking forward to picking up the skills as i go, and the way I see it, is if I can't take care of and maintain this, why do I deserve a $10-20k+ boat?

So it starts here. I honestly thought I'd just buy this and enjoy it for a little bit, until I could afford more, and literally 3 days later, im restoring a boat. Lol.

I bought this 12' 1970 Alumiline boat, and a sweet 2013 Smith trailer. The trailer caught my eye, and I felt I could always use it should the boat not work out. Tags current, titles in hand with a bill of sale (score)
Together they were listed on CL @ $900 along with wooden Oars, a older trolling motor (more on that later) with battery, and life vests.

I walked away paying $700 a pack of bacon and two fresh trouts. Older retired guy and his wife, so i felt good overall.

Got started stripping paint, removed transom and the benches. Ordered steel flex epoxy for the bottom. Hoping to start painting by the end of the week.

PO had put flex seal or silicone on all the rivets on bottomside, i stripped it all off today and polished her up with a wire wheel. Prepped for bottom paint.
*if you're having a hard time finding a respirator like i did. Wet sand it with wire wheel to eliminate dust. :D

Wow ... all I can say, in Hawaiian no less, is ... 'lottalottaelbowagreasetiki', which when translated means ... you surely must have spent HOURS getting that green tin hull back to the original tin!

Lol. i actually found this great product called "back to nature - multi strip advanced" at home depot. Amazing stuff. I slathered it on thick (in the evening), covered with garbage bags to keep from drying out, and scraped it off in the morning. No joke, like scraping icing off a cake. So easy. AND non-toxic. I didnt need gloves, or any PPE. Just a pair of swim shorts and flip flops for me. :D A few spots needed a second application, but overall not much time.

OK. With great respect, I hate you a little bit. I've worked on some old boats in recent years and daily I felt like I'd been beaten by sticks. I wish I'd heard of that product.

Really nice work so far, and a hull shape that makes me want to know how to works in the smooth, and then, choppy water.

Best wishes. Be safe.

Thanks guys. Im literally learning from the info I read here and videos posted. 0.00% skills to start. Thanks again to all the posters and support/info!

Ok, I used Steel Flex 2000 (clear) along with blue pigment, silver and blue pearlescent flake. My hopes was the clear would let the aluminum shine through and brighten the pigment, and pearl flake....Hopefully she will sparkle like a big *** lure lol. Spoke with the guys @ Fasco and I've entered uncharted waters.
So far looks great, and I can see the pearl shining through in the dark and under a flashlight. Ill get pics of it after she's cured. But here's after 2 coats (still wet)

Here she is dried and masking peeled. Going to paint the top layer this evening when it cools down. Pearl did show through, but it is really hard to see in the pics. It does have a nice blue/silver shine.

Figured I would "earn my stripes" and wire wheel the remaining bits of paint on the interior today......that sh**s for the birds! Lmao.... thats what I get for being too cheap to buy another $24 half gal of stripper.

I'm hanging up the wire wheel. Going to wash, wipe with acetone, etch, then paint.

Added a coat of paint to the inside, and started working on the frame for the subfloor.
