Where's the best place to get hardware for rebuilding this boat, 58' RichLine Knight Deluxe?
I know I'll need some screws, nails for the dash and dash trim, bolt, nuts and washers for the transom install, etc.
I'll likely need to replace the cables that handle the steering and throttle as well.

So, throw it out there, where's your favorite place to shop for boat parts and hardware???

Here's a good place to start. https://www.mcmaster.com/wood-screws/

They only sell in pre-packed quantities, so pay attention to the listings.

This has got to be the biggest hardware store anybody can imagine.

McMaster-Carr does indeed have just about everything...but the shipping charge will kill you.

I had a $59 order set up - then found out that shipping that order was another $42 - cancelled the order. E-mail to McMaster questioning the high cost of shipping got this answer..."We subsidize shipping costs for all orders to have items delivered the next day or as quickly as possible."

When I asked about perhaps offering slower shipping at a reasonable cost - "We charge only what our carriers charge us for the package, rather than inflated flat rates, and not based on the cost of the material that's being ordered."

So ya - they'll have just about anything you can need - but be prepared for that shipping charge.

I went with Fastenal - at least they don't empty your wallet with the shipping charges. Whatever type of wood screw you want, Fastenal probably has it.

Now, this is news to me. I will admit that it has been a few years since I needed to get anything from them. Probably not surprising, though, with shipping costs heading skyward with every carrier around.
I'll say, though, that if you can't find it anywhere else, check their catalog. They even had a non-standard bolt and nut thread that is used on older Craftsman metal lathe spindles.

Harbor Freight has cheap assortments of SS hardware. They're great for fastening small things, like cable clamps, switch panels, electronics, etc.

For bigger hardware, I will try and buy from Ebay to save money. Buying that stuff from the hardware store gets expensive really quickly.

My favorite is Bolt Depot.

Can buy small quantities, shipping reasonable.

Thanks for all of the replies.

How is the quality of the stuff at Harbor Freight? Would you use their stuff on your transom?

I hadn't considered Fastenal, there is one just down the street from me.

What about boat specific parts like the steering and throttle cables?

Thanks again, you all are a great resource!
