Sorry for starting this in a new topic. A mod can delete the other one if they choose to do so.
I have been debating on when to change the transom wood or not, or wait until the summer and continue to fish this winter. I went out and took some pictures of the transom as it is now, and would like to know should I go ahead and change it, or will the set up I have now hold out for a while. Before I installed the aluminum, the wood was in bad shape, but the engine was solid and unable to be moved when lifting on it.
This is how I plated the transom with a 1/4" piece of aluminum and installed all the bolts that were in the transom before. The plate is a solid piece that runs from one cap to the other on the back of the boat.
Here is a side view of the aluminum plate:
This is where the CMC tilt/trim bolts through the transom. It has four large bolts that go through the transom. Also you can see the cap over the top of the wood that is made onto the back of the boat transom:
This is a brace that is on the inside of the transom were the tanks are setting under the back deck. It runs from the its location in the picture to the floor of the bolt. The two large bolts on each side of it are also were the CMC bolts up:
This is a cap on the passenger side of the bolt. You can see the aluminum plating as well as the transom factory wood behind that. As you can see the wood is in very bad shape.
This is another view of the cap on the top of the transom and the plating:
Now, if I need to replace this wood, would I be correct in saying that the each of the caps on the back of boat would need to be removed. After that I could bend back the cap on top of the wood and take out all the other bolts and rivets running through it, and also take the brace loose and pull the wood out?
Again, sorry for running this topic again, but I wanted to add the pictures to show what I am looking at. Thanks
