Okay - I know what power I want for the F-9 - but without getting it in the water, deciding on a shaft length has left me scratching my head trying to figure it out.

I'm looking at either a Minn-Kota Edge or MotorGuide X3 - those are what my budget will allow me to get.

Can anyone out there with either an Alumacraft F-9 or a V-14, or knowledge of such, let me know what shaft length to order for this puppy?

TIA

I had an F7 with an older Minn Kota, 45" shaft was fine.

You can get a rough idea by measure straight down from the bow plate. If your boat has spent any time in the water you'll be able to roughly see where the waterline is, you want them close to a foot underwater.

Okay - the guy who had it before me washed the hull...but didn't scrub it. Found a faint line going down the length...seems to be the waterline. Measured it at 18" from the tip of the bow-plate.

That means a 42"-45" shaft.

Bingo - found a factory refurbished 45#/45" Edge for $315 - comes with a 1 year warranty.

Lot better than a new model, which even Amazon wants $470 for.

Thanks for the assistance.
