    An Observation

An Observation I've noticed a lot more people we fish with.... especially kids.... are fishing like they were competing in the Bass Masters Classic. Let me explain. When a fish strikes, they set the hook (cross the fishes eyes) and then skip the fish accross the top of the water and...

    Hot Action?

As you know, this week Hawaii saw 4 new high temperature records broken and one tied. These high record temperatures have caused record high water temperatures in the lake as well. Those of you who have studied photography know that color and temperature go hand in hand. High water...

    Do Bass Eat Birds?

We've been trying to introduce the Florida strain largemouth bass into Hawaii for over 30 years. Every year we go to the legislature to try again. A few years ago the Friends of Animals and some other Animal Rights groups brought this picture into the hearings and told the legislators if we...

    Fun, Interesting week

It's been an interesting week.... lots of fun with "red" devils of assorted "colors" (and other tropical fish.....) with an occasional larger peacock bass to test ones light tackle fishing skills. Aloha, Stan

    Wax for Tin Boats?

Every time it rains, the oil and gunk on the streets washes right into our little lake. The brown skum floating on the water turns fly lines brown, and leaves a "ring around the bath tub" on our boats. A little scrubbing with Simple Green gets the stuff off... Someone suggested I might wax...

    Fishing ESP

I have ESP... I can see into the future and predict things that are going to happen. Why just the other day as my attention was focused on the fly fisherman in the front of the boat... It all came to me in a flash...... Only moments before, in the back of the boat, I had hooked a fresh...

    Spawn Is On

The spawning peacock bass are every where. The largest we've caught so far was 3 1/2 pounds. Nice one Milton. Most weighed around 2 pounds. Where are all the big fish? Guess we'll just keep looking. It's easy to tell the male fish with that big hump on their head. Aloha, Stan

    Jet Ski?

That's Diamond Head and Waikiki in the background of the flats picture... and Waikikk's Ala Wai Canal for the cudas. You know it does kind of remind me of Asberry Park. NOT!

    Jet Ski?

I use a 12# test wire cable about 4 inches long. The kind with plastic around it. You just twist it and then heat it with a match. Sometimes we tye the leader in as part of the fly. The barrracuda we target are only a pound or two. Other times, just a long shank hook. LOL
