    I wanna go shallow!

Not to play devil's advocate but if you're going 6" on a river you could consider going with an inflatable pontoon boat at that point. Going to be much better given the rocks and if you did need any propulsion put a cheap transom trolling motor with a composite shaft on it.

Is this enough surface to install motorguide?

I do have a template from my last trolling motor mount. Should I put marine grade plywood over the bow with an extension to hold the back of the motor mount and bolt it through the plywood and steel so I have all major points covered? This way it's supported all the way to the back of the...

Is this enough surface to install motorguide?

I have six bolts to hold the steel plate and rubber washers to even out the surface of the install and guard against vibrations from chop.

Is this enough surface to install motorguide?

Guys I'm wanting to not have to bolt down marine plywood like I did with my old edge bow mount. Take a look at the pic would 5 bolts into this steel plate be enough to hold on this motorguide freshwater pro? Sorry the pic is upside down :( my phone sucks... You get the idea tho

Screw isn't stripped and the housing isn't cracked nor does it have loose screws...

Minn Kota Edge Hand Control Head is loose is it fixable?

I have a 2009 Minn Kota Edge Hand Control (the one with the hand tiller) bow mounted. The head wobbles from side to side and back and forth (fortunately the prop is still running solid so the important part works). Because they are only $309 new I'm not planning on repairing it or paying for...

Minn Kota Edge hand tiller "upgrade" thrust w/ transom model

I recently bought a hand tiller Minn Kota edge bow mounted mounted inexpensively on craigslist. When I noticed the motor and head looked almost identical to my 55 lbs thrust An idea dawned on me. Because you can already reverse the motor on a transom mount could you also replace the transom...

Battery size for fish finder, GPS, stereo, and nav lights

How many CCA would a battery need if its only being used to power the boats fish finder, GPS, stereo, live well, and nav lights if its hooked up to a 6 amp alternator (my Honda BF-15 has a small generator)? I plan on using a MASSIVE 850 CCA battery up front for my trolling motor and recharging...

    ugliest boat pictures

I SOOOOOO wish I had a picture of this but I was driving so it wouldn't have been safe. However, this boat was so epic I had to share as it would have been perfect: About three weeks back on my way down to the Delta I passed a guy who's "bass boat" consisted of a sail boat with the mast sawed...

Installed new transom how long will it last if done right?

Regardless though I can put on some spar later on to extend the life and provide some UV protection correct?

Do I need a transom plate?

It's treated with thompsons water seal I couldn't find epoxy in small enough quantities. Yeah I know ill have to spray again and again, but what about waiting for the thompsons to wear out a bit and then going over it with spar?

Installed new transom how long will it last if done right?

Yes I used thompsons and other water sealers :(! Can I just go over it in spar varnish or urethane or am I screwed now?

Do I need a transom plate?

Transom wood measured and cut from marine plywood. Yeah I know there's 5200 adhesive on it but I call it "noob prints"

Installed new transom how long will it last if done right?

Before I can say anything else WOW, you guys make this look easy putting in that transom was BRUTAL in 90+ degree heat  ! So I did everything the way folks said: two pieces of 5/8" marine grade plywood with water sealant on the inside of the transom glued together. Stainless steel...

    Grizzly or Topper

I had a grizzly 1448 at one point. It's a tough boat but unless your primary use is hunting you would be better to go with the topper. The problem I had with the grizzly is that it is HEAVY! It weighs in at 438 pounds so you will need a solid 15 hp motor just to get it going solo. Put two...

Do I need a transom plate?

The transom is marine grade plywood and its 1.25" thick. Boat is rated for 20 hp. The Honda I'm putting on clamps on but also has bolt holes so it can be bolted on as well. This boat had an Evinrude 15 on it when I bought it (the guy kept his outboard as it was in great condition.)

Do I need a transom plate?

Hey guys I finally finished the marine plywood remake of the transom on my 1982 Valco and its ready for the 2006 Honda 15 hp 4 stroke I'm picking up Friday. Should be an awesome little boat. However, there appear to be one heck of a lot of screws on the outside... and I had to use fender...

Separate battery for Trolling motor w/ outboard alternator?

So I finally scored a 15hp Honda 4 stroke with an alternator, it generates 12 amps at 3,000 RPM. With the alternator will I still need a second battery for my trolling motor or can the alternator keep it charged as I move between fishing spots?

    Zinc seat mounts

I believe zinc is less water (and possibly weather) resistant than stainless steel. If its on the deck and will rarely if ever get wet or face extreme elements then it probably won't matter too much... But if its going to be somewhat permenantly installed into the deck why hassle yourself later...

Carriage bolt holes from previous owner transom work

Thanks again guys I have the 5200 and the marine plywood. But when I disassembled I noted uneven carriage bolt holes that appear to have been handmade to hold exterior wood (the exterior wood didn't match the kind in the interior which reinforced my observation). I intend to redo the transom...
