Try this ... THE BEST bug repellant you will EVER use!

My biggest problems are with ticks and I swear by the permethrin products where you spray down your clothes, let them dry, and then you are good to go. They even say you can wash your clothes 6 times before effectiveness wears off. The reason I brought this up - they say it works on mosquitoes...

    Cost of Fishing License

One of my most prized possessions is my lifetime Kansas fishing license. They are up to $500+ now, but my parents bought it for me when I graduated highschool and it was much more reasonable. The downside is that you're making a bet you'll fish in that state most years. My buddy bought one a...

What is the actual towing weight?

I was in the same "boat" :LOL2: caught up comparing towing capacity to trailer weights, etc. My father-in-law shared some solid advice, "That max towing rate is for perfect conditions on flat roads, you don't want to be maxed out on weight and then try to climb a hill or drive in heavy wind"...

    a little jet edumacation

You've caught me, Pappy. That's exactly my situation, knowing a guy who knows a guy. Although I have been in a boat twice where capacity plates get checked, but that was for bodies in the boat, not HP.

    Magnets separated from flywheel

Yes, something else can come loose. I had the flywheel key come out, stick to the magnets, and chatter around killing an ignition sensor. Heck of a mess.

    a little jet edumacation

The size of a motor on a boat is more than just the "push" the motor provides being transferred through the boat, it's also the weight of the motor on the transom. A 60hp engine is at least an extra 100lbs hanging off the back compared to a 25. How's that going to affect performance, sink the...

    What do I have

I would take a look at the motor itself for the best clue. Motors should have a serial or model number, normally on the engine's mid-section. There will likely be a plate on the mounting bracket.

    problem with old timers mix

What mix did you use? My method was to leave the OTF on there for awhile and let it soak up as much as it can and then wipe off the excess. I wouldn't expect it to be sticky. Mine was mostly dry after 8 hours since it was all soaked into the wood.

    clean-up for old timers mix

I've used the wrap and freeze method - works great, although I tend to use it for oil paint rather than old timers formula because the OTF smells a bit strong. Something I ended up doing with my OTF is just keeping the brush in the container of OTF and seal it up. Keeps great that way, probably...

1977 Johnson 4 HP Vent Screw?

The gearcase diagram looks similar to my 69 Evinrude 1.5. No second plug as best as I can tell. I followed similar steps that RaisedByWolves laid out. Also in this video, he drains the oil with one plug only. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVF-Rno42dA

Yes, please let us know what they said. I'm really curious and sorry I couldn't be more help.

    Pink hue after wiping plywood

I've done a fair bit of work with Raka's (although it was slow hardener). The picture to me looks like the plywood soaking up liquid from your "damp sponge". Am I looking at the wrong thing? Did it go away after it dried a bit? Raka is always super responsive to questions, you can give them a...

    Storage for old timers mix

I got one of these at menards to store mine: https://www.menards.com/main/paint/brushes-rollers-trays/paint-trays-buckets/dutch-boy-reg-original-twist-pour-reg-paint-container/1-dbempga/p-1444429354023.htm I also labeled the mix ratio so that I can repeat the mix. Once you have them mixed...

    Suggestions for decking

For a temporary storage option, I'm a big fan of the elastic cargo nets. Mostly out of your way when you don't need it, but there in a flash to keep light items from blowing away like life jackets, seat pads, purses, empty beer cans, rain gear. They can have a habit of snagging stray rod tips...

Could use some help identifying old motors

Pappy, I think you're right. I found some writing for F-109 and R E Phelon on the flywheel. Best I can tell is that makes it a Neptune. I appreciate the advice, I've already been tripped up by the 1.5's single lower unit oil drain. AOMCI has been a great resource, I would like to attend one...

Could use some help identifying old motors

Think I found the Goodyear Sea Bee, it's either a 49 or 50 5hp. Must be the 025-3564 rather than 3554. Not finding any results for the latter.

Could use some help identifying old motors

Found a guy selling 5 antique outboards yesterday, $20 dollars a piece. The catch was that you had to take them all. It's the plain truth, but did warrant an eyebrow raised from my wife. I could use some help identifying these, especially this one that I can't find any markings on. I've been...

    14ft '78 Starcraft Seafarer "Willet"

Assembled and taken on a camping trip! Only got out once for an hour before rain drove us off the lake, but spent that hour breaking in the new motor! Rained out the rest of the weekend, but she should be ready for warmer weather and crappie fishing. Took Willet out again yesterday and did the...

Current remaining after flipping master switch?

The motor is a tiller with electric start, the motor is also wired into that master switch so that I have a single kill switch for all electronics in the boat (minus trolling motor on it's own circuit) in case of maintenance or emergency. The way it's set up, should the motor hold a charge, I'm...
