Hello all. I'm currently working on fixing up an old 10ft Jon that belonged to my dad. Mainly I'd just like to get this thing in the water and me out fishing! :D
I'm looking for all sorts of advice because I know next-to-nothing about boats.
Specs:
10' Jon
Unknown Make/Model
Not sure about the year, I'm estimating that it's around '95-'99

-I'd like to get carpeting put in, possibly some sort of flooring. (It doesn't feel very sturdy to walk on)
-It also has a small leak I'm planning to get welded.
-Wooden supports on the inside rear and outside rear of the boat. (I have no idea what sort of wood to use, pressure treated?)
-What I'm assuming are supports on the floor (3rd Image from the top, metal bar and what looks like a 2x4) are both broken in the middle. Not sure how to fix those.

Thanks for any suggestions!

A home depot employee who said she was an expert on boats said pt lumber no longer effects aluminum. What would you recommend, though?

You should carefully consider the experience level of the person you spoke with and follow the advice in these forums. Some people know what they are speaking about and others get paid to sell stuff.

Well, I figured something was up from the little bit of reading I had done into PT and aluminum.
What kind of lumber should I use, though?
You can use marine grade plywood which is on the high end depending on budget. You can also use non PT plywood as seen in many posts on Tinboats. You should consider coating any of your choices with Spar Urethane or similar product. I just finished the transom replacement on mine, where I used solid cedar lumber coated with 4+ coats of Spar urethane, which may have been overkill. :) Let us know how it goes and plenty of pics.

IMO, the ultimate coating would be Epoxy and then paint. The spars and polys are good also.

You want to be very careful adding weight to a 10 foot boat.

I suggest you do just enough to make it serviceable and take it boating a few times before adding anything else.

That would be my best guess but it is a style I personally have never seen before. It looks like the seat base was designed to slide unto those brackets.

So I'm thinking instead of putting in a floor, I'll just add some supports to the interior floor of the boat. A friend suggested something metal but I'm not sure what to use. Anybody have any experience with this?
